Though training isn’t necessarily required to get involved in careers in the meat industry, having training will often accelerate your career and get you closer to your career goals faster. In addition to on-the-job training, there are five institutions currently offer industry certification. They are:

• Thompson Rivers University, Kamloops, British Columbia

• Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, Edmonton, Alberta

• Southern Alberta Institute of Technology, Calgary, Alberta

• Olds College, Olds, Alberta

• Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology

Training and specialties vary slightly in each school, but generally the courses are offered twice a year. The course last 20 to 25 weeks and includes job experience.If you’re interested in the business or logistics management side of the business then having a post-secondary degree or diploma from university, college, or a technical institute will help to build skills necessary for those positions.
